Chief Executive Officer
Kitty Lagareta has been with Communications Pacific since she joined the firm as an account executive in 1986. She has headed the company since 1995. A well-known Hawai‘i communicator and entrepreneur, Kitty was selected as the first “Businesswoman of the Year” by Pacific Business News. Before joining CommPac, Kitty was a founding board member and the first executive director of Hawai‘i’s Ronald McDonald House.
Later, Kitty served as vice president of the Kapi‘olani Health Foundation. She currently serves on the boards of the American Red Cross – Hawai‘i State Chapter, the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America, ASSETS School and Enterprise Honolulu, an economic development organization. Kitty is an active partner in IPREX (she has served on its 12-member Executive Committee), a global partnership of independent communications firms, of which Communications Pacific is the Hawai‘i affiliate. She is a past president of the Rotary Club of Honolulu, Hawai‘i’s oldest and largest Rotary club; and she served two terms on the board of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai‘i. Among the other organizations on whose boards she has served are HiBEAM (Hawai‘i Business Entrepreneur and Acceleration Mentors), Young CEOs, and the Hawai‘i Justice Foundation.
Kitty served five years on the University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents, including two years as vice chair and two years as chair. She has also served as an appointee on Hawai‘i’s Elections Review Task Force and the Elections Appointment and Review Panel (EARP).
In addition to having been honored as “Businesswoman of the Year,” Kitty has also been honored as one of Hawai‘i’s women leaders by the YWCA of Oahu. Junior Achievement of Hawai‘i named her to the Hawai‘i Business Hall of Fame. The Hawai‘i Chapter of the March of Dimes honored her with the Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Award for Distinguished Community Service, and the Pacific Gateway Center presented her its Community Building Award. The American Red Cross – Hawai‘i State Chapter awarded her its Chairman’s Cup. The Boy Scouts of America and its Aloha Chapter honored her with the Silver Beaver Award for extraordinary volunteer service.
Kitty has received numerous awards for her work from the Hawai‘i chapters of both the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and PRSA Hawai‘i honored her as Gregg W. Perry Public Relations Professional of the Year (2003). She is a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i, with a degree in English.

Senior Vice President
Russell Pang worked for Communications Pacific from 1991 to 2002 and headed the company’s corporate communications practice as vice president before leaving to serve as chief of media relations for Hawai‘i’s former governor, Linda Lingle, during her two terms in office. He rejoined CommPac in 2011.
Russell has 20 years of communications experience in the private and public sectors developing and implementing strategic public relations plans in the areas of media relations, marketing communications, corporate communications, issues management, crisis communications, public affairs and employee relations. He has represented clients in a variety of industries, including tourism, petroleum, telecommunications, high technology, energy, retail, finance and agriculture.
During his tenure in the Office of the Governor, Russell developed and managed communications programs and media relations strategies for the executive branch. He also participated in crisis and emergency communications relating to natural disasters, homeland security and other emergencies in collaboration with state, federal, county and private sector responders.
Before joining CommPac, Russell was a research assistant with First Hawaiian Bank, where he tracked economic and business trends. He also was international trade assistant with the American Electronics Association in Washington, D.C., and worked on Capitol Hill in the U.S. Senate Placement Office.
He has served on the board of directors for the International Association of Business Communicators’ (IABC) Hawai‘i Chapter as well as the Life Foundation, Hawai‘i’s largest HIV/AIDS service organization.
Russell has been recognized with awards from IABC, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and Pacific Business News.
Russell earned a master’s in business administration from The American University, Kogod College of Business Administration in Washington, D.C., and a bachelor’s degree in economics and East Asian studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Born and raised in Honolulu, he is a graduate of Punahou School.

Vice President
Nalani Choy joined Communications Pacific as vice president in March 2013. She is principally involved in marketing and in the community building work for which CommPac has built a strong reputation over the past 15 years.
While Nalani is well known as a member of Na Leo Pilimehana, the nationally and internationally renowned Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning trio, she has also been the strategist, marketer and business manager who is largely responsible for the trio’s phenomenal success not only in Hawaii, but in Japan and on the U.S. mainland as well. Nalani’s work with Na Leo Pilimehana also led her to found and lead a number of spinoff companies – NLP Music (Na Leo Pilimehana’s record label), OneHawaii Music (a record label for Hawaii artists, including “Anuhea,” which promotes concerts for Hawaiian musicians on the U.S. mainland, in Asia and in Hawaii), and B&J Marketing (a program and events management company specializing in Hawaiian cultural programs).
Before focusing on the business of music, Nalani managed – simultaneously – the Haleiwa and Waialua branches of Bank of Hawaii, as an assistant vice president. Just 25 years old when she was appointed to the position, she was then the youngest branch manager that Bank of Hawaii had ever had up to that time.
An honors graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Nalani earned a degree in business from the University of Denver, graduating cum laude.
Among her many community activities, Nalani is a member of Waialua Hawaiian Civic Club; she served as president of Haleiwa Main Street during the years when the Haleiwa Bypass was being heavily debated in the community; she served on the Jedi Council advisory committee for the Hawaii Department of Education’s successful “Race to the Top” bid; she has volunteered for organizations such as HUGS, Hawaiian Children’s Cancer Foundation, Kamehameha Schools and Pacific Island Athletic Alliance, among many others; and she is a member of the Hawaiian Academy of Recording Arts (HARA), the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), and the National Academy of Recording Arts (Grammy Awards).

Director
Nicole Fuertes joined Communications Pacific (CommPac) as an account executive in 2008, bringing with her more than five years of public relations experience. Her leadership and counsel have brought success to a wide range of clients in the travel and tourism, hospitality, arts and culture, retail, construction and nonprofit industries.
Specializing in media relations, issues management, special events and promotions, Nicole has created new partnerships, grown current accounts, created new business opportunities – and not hesitated to challenge conventional thinking.
Before coming to CommPac, Nicole served as assistant program coordinator and information specialist at the Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy, a program for at-risk teens. There, in addition to recruitment, she was responsible for increasing awareness of the program in Hawaii and for securing partnerships and grant assistance. Earlier, she worked for McNeil Wilson Communications in the travel and tourism division.
Nicole’s work has won several Koa Anvil Awards from the Public Relations Society of America’s Hawaii chapter. She serves on the board of directors of the Nanala at Mehana community association. She previously served as a member of the Father Damien Canonization Committee.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Nicole is a graduate of Boston University where she received her degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations. As a student she interned at Sheraton Waikiki and The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort, as well as Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge in Florida.

Shauna Goya joined Communications Pacific (CommPac) in 2010 as an account executive and, after quickly demonstrating an ability to deliver client results, earned several promotions to her current position, director. She specializes in media relations, having worked a decade at The Honolulu Advertiser, formerly Hawaii’s largest daily newspaper (it has since been sold and merged with its competitor), as a copy editor.
Shauna manages a diverse set of accounts with clients in the health care, utility, construction, insurance, education, real estate and nonprofit sectors. She has helped lead CommPac’s media training sessions and social media team.
Shauna has a deep understanding of the changing media landscape and a rich network of Hawaii media contacts. A former Advertiser blogger, Shauna is also connected to the “big players” in Hawaii’s social media world, in which she is active. She is aware of the increasingly important role of digital communications and citizen journalism.
Shauna represents CommPac on the Best Practices Committee of IPREX, one of the largest partnerships of independent communications firms in major markets around the globe. She serves on the board of the Social Media Club Hawaii, is a member of the Honolulu Executives Association and heads up the Young Professionals Resource Committee for the Public Relations Society of America (Hawaii chapter).
Born and raised in Hawaii, Shauna is a graduate of Roosevelt High School and the University of Hawaii, where she earned her degree in journalism and speech.

Account Supervisor
Morgan first came to Communications Pacific (CommPac) as an intern in the fall of 2005. In March 2006, she became one of only a handful of former interns to join the company on a full-time basis. She worked for several years in CommPac’s marketing services practice, where she was involved with many special event projects. In 2007, Morgan was promoted to account executive and has since joined the company’s public relations practice. She was promoted to senior account executive in 2010 and to Account Supervisor in 2012.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Morgan earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a minor in speech communications, from the University of Nevada.

As senior editor since he joined Communications Pacific in 2000 – and vice president for editorial services since 2006 – Howard Daniel is responsible for editing all written materials created at CommPac, making them as crisp, clear and strong as possible. He also handles some of CommPac’s more challenging writing assignments – drafting speeches, opinion pieces, etc., in instances where his experience as a writer can lend an original touch.

Howard came to CommPac from Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., where he served five years as publications manager. There, among other assignments, he wrote and edited Ampersand, A&B’s award-winning external publication. Earlier, he was speechwriter to Hawaii’s former governor, John Waihee. In the first part of his career, Howard served as a Foreign Service officer, conducting “public diplomacy” for the U.S. Information Agency in Japan, the USSR and Brazil. While posted at USIA’s Foreign Press Center in Washington, D.C., he worked closely with European journalists, often at very senior levels. Previously, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in India.
Howard is a past president of the Hawaii Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and currently serves on the chapter’s Strategic Advisory Council. He has earned accreditation in public relations (the APR credential), and his work has been recognized with more than 30 awards from the Hawaii chapters of both PRSA and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). PRSA Hawaiʻi honored him with its Gregg W. Perry Public Relations Person of the Year Award in 2013. His writing skills have been enriched by his experience in foreign languages – Russian, Portuguese and Hindi. A graduate of Yale University, Howard earned his master’s degree from Harvard.
