HSEA Appoints Leslie Cole-Brooks Executive Director

HONOLULU – Leslie Cole-Brooks has been appointed executive director of the Hawaii Solar Energy Association (HSEA).

Cole-Brooks is a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law and is a member of the Hawaii and California State Bars. She previously served as an environmental and legal analyst for Representative Cynthia Thielen where she gained extensive experience relating to renewable energy policies and issues.

According to Gabriel Chong, HSEA president, the recently elected board of directors realized that the association’s decades-old administrative structure, where the elected president was expected to serve as chief lobbyist, regulatory liaison, administrator and the HSEA’s public face is no longer tenable.

“There is now simply too much at stake for the renewable energy industry in Hawaii for the HSEA to continue with business as usual,” said Chong. “We are extremely fortunate that someone with Leslie’s background and experience will help manage our day-to-day operations and lead the Hawaii Solar Energy Association as we continue to play a critical role in achieving Hawaii’s energy independence.”

Founded in 1977, HSEA comprises installers, distributors, manufacturers, auditors and financiers of solar water heating and photovoltaic systems. The majority of member companies are locally owned and operated, making HSEA the leading voice of Hawaii’s solar industry.
