UnitedHealthcare Hawaii Medicaid Managed Care Plan Achieves NCQA Three-Year Accreditation
HONOLULU (April 25, 2012) – UnitedHealthcare Community Plan has achieved a three-year New Health Plan accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its Medicaid Managed Care plan.
NCQA New Health Plan Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators and consumers can use to assess managed care plans. The accreditation process evaluates how well a new health plan manages all parts of its delivery system, from physicians and hospitals to other providers and administrative services. The review also includes on-site and off-site evaluations by a team of physicians and managed care experts.
NCQA’s New Health Plan Accreditation Program applies to health plans that are less than 36 months old. The program is distinct from NCQA’s Health Plan Accreditation Program; however, Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA president stated, “Health plans that step forward to participate in NCQA’s New Health Plan Accreditation program early on in their history are to be especially commended. Our standards are rigorous, and by meeting them, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Hawaii has shown that it is well designed and serious about the quality of care it provides.”
“This NCQA accreditation reflects UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Hawaii’s commitment to ensuring our members have access to quality, evidence-based care and personalized care management programs that help them live healthier lives,” said plan President Bill Guptail. UnitedHealthcare in Hawaii serves over 50,000 individuals with Medicaid, Medicare and employer group health care coverage and related services. UnitedHealthcare has over 170 employees across the islands with its office in downtown Honolulu.
