Starwood Hawaii’s 11 Hotels to Dim Lights for Earth Hour

Guests Encouraged to Join Global Environmental Movement for One Hour on
Saturday, March 31, at 8:30 p.m.

HONOLULU – All 11 hotels in the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii portfolio will participate in Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), to send a global message about the importance of environmental awareness and caring for the planet.

On Saturday, March 31, at 8:30 p.m., all Starwood Hawaii hotel brands including St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Westin and Sheraton across the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Hawaii, the Big Island, will turn off the lights on facilities including restaurants, spas, pools and ballrooms, for one full hour, underscoring the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability. Guests staying in nearly 7,000 hotel rooms in all 11 Starwood Hawaii properties will be encouraged to dim or turn off the lights.

This is the second year Starwood Hawaii hotels are observing Earth Hour, which reflects Starwood’s corporate 30-20-20 environmental goal to cut energy use by 30 percent and water use by 20 percent by 2020.

In addition to dimming the lights, the following hotel properties have special activities planned for the observance of Earth Hour:

The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas
8:30 p.m. Oli (chant) with hula performance
Luminary Parade for kids
Polynesian fire knife performance

The St. Regis Princeville Resort
Lobby will be filled with lit candles around murano glass chandelier where guests are welcome to view

Sheraton Princess Kaiulani
Lobby will feature an educational display illustrating the value of other energy saving measures including switching light bulbs to CFL bulbs, turning off exterior signage lighting, using candles, and dimming or turning off non-essential interior lighting. Hotel in-room voicemail messages and televisions will be used to inform guests about the hotel’s observance of Earth Hour.
