The Gas Company Promotes Joe Boivin to Senior Vice President of External Affairs

HONOLULU — The Gas Company (TGC), Hawaii’s clean gas energy provider, today announced the promotion of Joseph “Joe” Boivin, Jr., to senior vice president of external affairs. Joe joined the company in the fall of 2009 as vice president of operations to oversee the company’s statewide gas operations and develop and execute strategic business initiatives. He then served as senior vice president of strategic initiatives and marketing, responsible for the development of new business opportunities and increased awareness of the importance of gas as part of a balanced approach to energy conservation and use.

In his new role, Joe will oversee regulatory affairs, legislative and government affairs, corporate communications and new market development. He will report directly to the CEO.

“Joe has the expertise and experience needed to ensure that The Gas Company remains fully engaged with our customers, the community and government stakeholders as we continue to develop new technology to produce clean, renewable energy for Hawaii,” said Jeffrey Kissel, TGC’s president and chief executive officer.

Before joining TGC, Joe served as a senior associate at Booz Allen Hamilton in Honolulu where he managed the economic and business analysis team across the Pacific region, providing management and technology consulting services to both public- and private-sector clients. His background also includes private equity investment management and aerospace engineering. He served four years in the United States Air Force.

Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA in finance from the University of Arkansas.

ABOUT THE GAS COMPANY

Overview

The Gas Company, LLC, (TGC) provides clean, reliable and efficient gas energy to residential, business and government customers in every community across Hawaii’s six major islands — Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. Next to the sun itself, gas is the most efficient way to heat water, cook food and dry clothes.

TGC makes synthetic natural gas (SNG) at the only facility of its kind in the United States and supplies it through a 1,100-mile pipeline network to nearly 30,000 commercial and residential utility customers on Oahu. TGC also supplies tank and bottled propane gas to more than 40,000 customers statewide.

Clean Energy

To help Hawaii’s state government meet its goal of 70 percent clean energy by 2030, TGC is producing renewable natural gas (RNG) from sustainable non-food-grade oils and fats at its RNG production plant on Oahu. TGC is working to produce at least half of its gas from renewable and sustainable sources.
