The Gas Company Appoints Tom Young as Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Supply
HONOLULU – The Gas Company, LLC (TGC), Hawaii’s clean gas energy provider, announces the appointment of Thomas “Tom” K.L.M. Young as senior vice president of strategic initiatives and supply. Tom joined TGC in 1981 as an assistant chemist for the company’s 16.7 million-cubic-foot-capacity synthetic gas (SNG) manufacturing plant, the only one of its kind in the nation. He rose to become senior vice president and chief operating officer, a position he held prior to this appointment.
In his new position, Tom will use his years of experience in gas operations and supply distribution, his background in chemistry, and his depth of knowledge in the energy sector complex to lead TGC’s efforts in cutting-edge energy initiatives. These initiatives are intended to maximize the use of renewable gas from local, sustainable sources, as well as to implement alternative clean, efficient and cost-effective gas energy solutions for Hawaii’s residents and businesses.
“Fuel supply diversity is key to affordable and reliable energy, and we are fortunate to have someone of Tom’s caliber and experience leading our strategic initiatives to ensure that The Gas Company continues to play an important role in helping Hawaii meet its clean energy goals,” said Jeffrey M. Kissel, TGC’s president and CEO.
Over the past three decades, Tom has held important leadership positions responsible for the company’s operations and pipeline integrity programs. He is a graduate of the University of Hawaii, with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry.
ABOUT THE GAS COMPANY
Overview
The Gas Company, LLC, (TGC) provides clean, reliable and efficient gas energy to residential, business and government customers in every community across Hawaii’s six major islands — Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. Next to the sun itself, gas is the most efficient way to heat water, cook food and dry clothes.
TGC makes synthetic natural gas (SNG) at the only facility of its kind in the United States and supplies it through a 1,100-mile pipeline network to nearly 30,000 commercial and residential utility customers on Oahu. TGC also supplies tank and bottled propane gas to more than 40,000 customers statewide.
Clean Energy
To help Hawaii’s state government meet its goal of 70 percent clean energy by 2030, TGC is producing renewable natural gas (RNG) from sustainable non-food-grade oils and fats at its RNG production plant on Oahu. TGC is working to produce at least half of its gas from renewable and sustainable sources.
