Business Alliance Hawaii and H&R Block Team Up to Help Taxpayers

HONOLULU – Business Alliance Hawaii, a division of Hawaii Medical Assurance Association (HMAA), a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), is offering its members $20 off tax preparation services at H&R Block, one of the world’s largest providers of tax services.

The special discount is part of a new affiliation between HMAA, H&R Block and Ceridian Corporation, a leading global business services company. Ceridian clients are also eligible for the $20 discount.

“Tax season can be a difficult time of year for many small businesses and employees,” said John Henry Felix, chairman, president and CEO of HMAA. “We’re proud to welcome H&R Block to Business Alliance Hawaii and to help save HMAA members time and money at tax preparation time.”

HMAA launched Business Alliance Hawaii last year to advance HMAA founder Arnold Baptiste Sr.’s vision of providing a highly valuable, diverse selection of business services tailored to the needs of the small to mid-sized companies that constitute HMAA’s growing member base.

The $20 discount is available at H&R Block’s 28 branches on Oahu, as well as participating branches on the neighbor islands.

“We have the best tax professionals in the industry, who are available to do whatever it takes to meet the specific needs of taxpayers, whether they are individual or business filers,” said Samantha Moikeha, district manager of H&R Block. “We’re pleased to team up with HMAA and Ceridian to help taxpayers get the peace of mind they deserve.”

HMAA members and Ceridian clients are encouraged to visit www.hmaa.com to print the H&R Block discount voucher or call 808-487-8531 (on Oahu) for assistance.

Many of the non-health-related services that HMAA is rolling out through its Business Alliance Hawaii division are, in whole or in part, the result of a joint services agreement that HMAA signed in March 2011 with Ceridian Corporation. The agreement allows for the cross-marketing of services to their respective customers and members, and it established a framework for HMAA to provide non-health-related products and services to its members. In Hawaii, Ceridian serves more than 3,000 employers representing 220,000 employees, while HMAA serves more than 3,300 employers with more than 42,000 members.

Reg Baker, senior vice president of HMAA, also serves as chief operating officer of the Business Alliance Hawaii division, coordinating all of the division’s value-added products and services.

Business Alliance Hawaii, which is trademarked by HMAA, launched three new services last year to make tools available to its members that until now have generally been available only to large companies. Through affiliations with Ceridian, ID Theft Solutions of America and SuperGeeks, Business Alliance Hawaii also provides special rates on payroll services, identity theft protection, and information technology security, respectively.

HMAA has always been known as Hawaii’s leading provider of superior health insurance benefits for small and medium-sized businesses, and larger employers as well. HMAA’s comprehensive medical plans include alternative benefits such as acupuncture, chiropractic and naturopathic care, as well as life insurance, wellness programs, and dental, orthodontia, vision and prescription drug riders. It offers the best medical plan option for sole proprietors in the state. HMAA’s benefits and rates can be customized for any company. More information is available at www.hmaa.com.
