McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii Provides More Ways for Customers to “Give A Hand” to Families in Need

HONOLULU – Hawaii residents are invited to visit any McDonald’s restaurant in the state from November 10 through 20 to show their support for local families in need by purchasing a paper “Give A Hand.” This year, customers can donate in varying denominations, $1, $3, or $5, and all proceeds from the “Give A Hand” fundraiser will support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) – the company’s “charity of choice” for 37 years.

“Each year the Give A Hand fundraiser helps raise money that benefits RMHC not only in Hawaii, but also nationwide,” said Jerri Chong, president of RMHC-Hawaii. “It’s an exciting way for customers to donate to our cause and have their support on display in a McDonald’s restaurant.”

In addition to the in-restaurant fundraising program, customers can also participate in the “Give A Hand” online sweepstakes. Customers are invited to write messages of support for RMHC on their hand, take a picture, and submit it online via @McDonalds Twitter page for the chance to help RMHC and win prizes. Each day throughout the campaign, three winners will be selected from the submitted hand photos to receive a McDonald’s-branded prize pack, $250 cash prize, and a $500 donation in their name to their local RMHC Chapter. More information on the sweepstakes can be found at https://bit.ly/mcdgah. See Official Rules for details. No Purchase Necessary.

McDonald’s commitment to RMHC in Hawaii extends beyond the annual “Give A Hand” fundraiser. McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii donates five cents from the sale of each Happy Meal® and Mighty Kids Meal® purchased in Hawaii every day to RMHC.

Social responsibility has been a fundamental part of McDonald’s business for more than 50 years. With a shared history that dates back to McDonald’s support in the creation of the first Ronald McDonald House in 1974, McDonald’s has supported RMHC and its mission to improve the health and well-being of children around the world.

About Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHC-Hawaii) offers support for families with seriously ill children by operating two Ronald McDonald Houses in Manoa Valley. Families from the neighbor islands and around the Pacific may stay there when they come to Honolulu seeking medical care for their children. Each year, hundreds of families make Ronald McDonald House their “home away from home.”

RMHC-Hawaii also provides the Ronald McDonald House Family Room, a respite and support center inside Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. At the Family Room, most of those assisted are from Oahu.

RMHC-Hawaii programs strengthen and support families during a very difficult time. For a child, having family members nearby to give love and comfort may be as crucial as medical care itself.

RMHC-Hawaii relies heavily on community support to keep the Houses running, not only through monetary donations, but also through countless hours of personal time committed by volunteers.
