dck pacific guam Wins Contract for Guam Regional Medical City Project

Barrigada, Guam—August 4 , 2011: dck pacific guam, LLC, a dck worldwide company, is proud to announce the award of a Construction Manager-at-Risk contract to build an exciting new project that will change healthcare on Guam: Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) is majority owned and operated by The Medical City, a world-class, Joint Commission Accredited hospital network in the Philippines. This facility will be located on a six-acre site adjacent to the busy Route 1-Route 3 intersection.

The first phase of the development, pending permit approval, is planned as a six-story, 260,000 SF, 130-bed, $250 million state of the art hospital that will provide the residents of Guam new and better healthcare options. Along with the patient suites, the building includes 15 dedicated emergency beds, 15 intensive care rooms, 8 surgery suites, a birthing center and a neonatal intensive care unit. Cancer treatment, medical imaging, cardiology and ophthalmology clinics, and on site laboratory facilities, will revolutionize the way healthcare is provided on the island. A second phase is under consideration, which will add up to 100 patient rooms and office space for more specialists to provide additional capabilities on island. The complex, which will be the first and only private hospital on Guam, will break ground in November or December 2011. This day will mark a milestone that has been years in the making.

For nearly five years, dck worked hand in hand with businessman Peter Sgro, a lifelong Guam resident, who drove this project from the personal experience of his mother’s hospital stay, and ultimately with the non-profit Hospital Development Foundation. Sgro, dck, and Ruth Gurusamy RN, MBA, MSN – who provided significant healthcare expertise – worked with a number of partners to translate this vision for a premier private hospital on Guam into a reality. Throughout this time-frame, dck provided its medical construction expertise, value engineering and constructability ideas, industry contacts, estimates, schedules, and other information which moved the project to the next phase. This 5-year commitment led to dck being awarded a formal pre-construction services contract in April 2011 and its current Construction Manager-at-Risk contract.

“There is a tremendous need on Guam for high-quality healthcare options. At the present time, more than 300 residents are off island daily seeking medical services that cannot be found on Guam. dck is thrilled to be a part of this monumental project that will become a major improvement to the quality of life for many Guam residents,” said dck worldwide President & CEO Stephen D’Angelo.
