First Insurance Company Donates $2,900 to Aloha Harvest from Centennial Cookbook Sale

HONOLULU – First Insurance Company of Hawaii, Ltd. (FICOH) today presented a check for $2,900 to Aloha Harvest, a nonprofit organization that gathers donated food and delivers it free of charge to social service agencies. The money was raised through sales of FICOH’s cookbook and a recipe sampler fundraiser, both part of the company’s centennial anniversary celebration.

First Insurance employees have committed to giving back to Hawaii’s people, charities and nonprofit organizations in 100 different ways during 2011 as a way to thank the community for its support over the past 100 years.

“At First Insurance, we pride ourselves on giving back and helping others,” said Janice Fukuda, Assistant Vice President at FICOH and an Aloha Harvest board member. “Our cookbook sale and recipe fundraiser were ways for us to celebrate our 100th anniversary and at the same time help an organization that does so much for our community.”

“On behalf of Aloha Harvest, I want to thank the employees of First Insurance Company of Hawaii for this generous contribution,” said Kuulei Williams, executive director of Aloha Harvest. “We rely on grants and donations from individuals and companies to help us fulfill our mission of feeding Hawaii’s hungry.”

First Insurance’s cookbook, titled “First Celebrates! Food for Family and Friends,” features 189 “local” recipes submitted by FICOH employees, retirees and independent agency partners, as well as historical highlights from First Insurance’s past 100 years. About 1,000 copies of the cookbook were sold in-house. Several employee contributors to the book prepared their recipes during a sampler fundraiser on May 3, and all proceeds from the event went to Aloha Harvest.

A limited number of FICOH centennial cookbooks are available to the public for $10 each. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Aloha Harvest. For more information, please contact Kaela Wasnich at Kaela.Wasnich@ficoh.com.
